Based in rural Lincolnshire, Charlie trained in Contemporary Decorative Craft at Lincoln University, graduating in 2006. It was here that her appreciation of the subtleties and inter-action of natural forms led to experimentation with warm glass.

A morning walk on the beach when a bottle washed up on the shore inspired designs incorporating broken bottle glass. The result was the creation of highly original, textural forms which evolved into a substantial and sculptural style.

The recycling of wine bottles naturally led to re-using window glass, obtained from local sources, in order to impact as little as possible on the environment .

Charlie enjoys the versatility and unpredictable nature of the materials, which allow her the freedom to create designs on varying scales whilst retaining an essence of subtlety and delicacy. Fusing bottle glass directly onto the surface of porcelain in wall-based designs and, on a smaller scale, in jewellery creates a contrast of textures and media with clear glass forms .

Every piece of work has very individual qualities. Charlie adopts an instinctive approach to all her designs which allows the materials the freedom to move and react to the processes they are put through
